Where to go on holiday from Baku: match the trip to you

There is no best country — only the one that fits you. Pick the holiday type first, then the place: Antalya, Rome, Dubai, Cappadocia and the best months.

Checked: 28.09.2026

Where to go on holiday depends less on where everyone else is going and more on what you want from the trip. Choose the type of holiday first — sea, city, food, experiences, romance — and then the country: the table below shows which destinations from Baku suit each type, and in which months.

A friend comes back from Rome: "Best trip of my life." You book the tickets. By day three you're sitting on the hotel balcony, wondering why you feel so exhausted. Nothing is wrong with Rome. It just wasn't your kind of holiday.

Why might the country everyone raves about be wrong for you?

Rome means being on your feet all day. You discover the city street by street, with history around every corner: the Colosseum in the morning, the Vatican at midday, Trastevere in the evening. If you love cities, that is pure joy — and our 3-day Rome itinerary is built exactly that way.

But if you've had a long year and all you want is the sea, a pool, all-inclusive and quiet, Rome will wear you out. For that kind of break, Antalya fits far better: hotel, beach, sea — and no itinerary to follow.

The mistake isn't the country. It's the question. Momento Travel, a travel agency in Baku, matches destinations the same way: the type of holiday first, then the season, direct flights, entry rules and budget.

Which kind of holiday suits which traveller?

"Sea, pool, all-inclusive, zero decisions"

Antalya. Everything is inside the resort, the beach is a few steps away, and the day moves at your pace. From June to September, average highs are 32–35°C and the sea is 25–30°C. In October the sea is still around 26°C.

"City, shopping, entertainment"

Dubai. Giant malls, modern architecture, evening shows, the desert and the beach — all in one trip. The most comfortable months are November to March, with highs of 24–31°C. In summer, afternoons go above 40°C and walking outdoors becomes hard work.

"History, museums and long walks"

Rome. Several kilometres a day and something new on every street. The best walking months are April–May and September–October, with highs of 20–28°C.

"I travel to experience something different"

Cappadocia. Balloons rising over the valleys at sunrise, strangely shaped rock formations, a night in a cave hotel. This is a trip for experiences rather than rest: early starts, valley hikes, moments you'll remember. The best time is April–June and September–October. Mornings are cold, so pack a warm layer.

What should you ask yourself before choosing a country?

  1. How do you want to feel when you get back? Rested, or full of stories?
  2. What does your ideal day look like? A sunbed and a book, or walking from morning till night?
  3. How many days do you have? Three or four suit a city break; a week or more suits the beach.
  4. Who are you travelling with? Family with kids, a couple, friends — the same country is a different trip for each.
  5. When are you going? The same place can be perfect one month and draining the next.
  6. Budget and documents. What budget feels comfortable, and do you need a visa? That's part of the choice, not an afterthought.

Once you have the answers, the country usually picks itself.

Where should you go, and when, for each type of holiday?

Holiday type From Baku to Best months
Beach and rest Antalya, Sharm El Sheikh, Maldives Antalya: June–September · Sharm: March–May, October–November · Maldives: all year, driest in February–March
City and culture Rome, Prague, Istanbul Rome: April–May, September–October · Prague: May–September · Istanbul: May–June, September–October
Food Rome, Istanbul, Tbilisi May, September–October
Nightlife and entertainment Dubai, Istanbul, Phuket Dubai: November–March · Istanbul: May–September · Phuket: December–March, the least rainy months
Adventure and experiences Cappadocia, Bali Cappadocia: April–June, September–October · Bali: June–September, the dry season
Romance Maldives, Paris, Cappadocia Maldives: all year · Paris: May–September · Cappadocia: April–June, September–October

The months are based on climate averages — daytime temperature, sea temperature and rainfall. They are not a forecast, so always check the weekly forecast before a specific trip. For exact October and November numbers, see choose your holiday by the weather. If romance means the Maldives, here are the five decisions behind a honeymoon there.

How does the same place change from person to person?

The same destination can be two completely different holidays. For one person Istanbul is museums and old neighbourhoods; for another it's restaurants, evenings on the Bosphorus and shopping. For a family, Dubai is beaches and theme parks; for a group of friends, it's the nightlife.

Even Rome can be two different trips: several museums and hours on your feet, or a morning coffee, a couple of big sights and a long, unhurried lunch. When you choose a destination, choose the rhythm too — that's what really shapes the holiday.

That's why "What's it like there?" isn't enough. The better question is: "What's it like there for the holiday I want?"

So which country is the best?

There is no best country. There is the right country for you. Next time someone tells you "that's the best country", just ask: "Best for whom?" Antalya for sea lovers, Rome for city lovers, Dubai for those who want sparkle and pace, Cappadocia for anyone chasing a new feeling. All of them are great — each one is simply for a different person.
